Laser Engraver FAQs
A diode laser is a laser that uses a semiconductor diode as the active medium to generate coherent light. Different semiconductor materials are used in the construction of diode lasers to produce multiple wavelengths.
Currently we have diode lasers in blue (wavelength 445nm - 450nm) and infrared lasers (wavelength 1064nm).
Atomstack X serie are blue diode laser engraving machines. They are capable of engraving a wide range of materials. Some common materials that can be engraved with Atomstack diode laser engraver include:
- Wood: hardwoods like oak, maple, and cherry, softer woods like pine and cedar as well as bamboo, MDF, etc.
- Acrylic, also known as Plexiglas or Perspex.
- Paper and Cardboard
- Rubber: silicone rubber and rubber stamps
- Some Plastics: ABS, acrylic, and PET
- Coated Metal: Anodized aluminum, stainless steel
- Ceramics: porcelain and glazed tiles
- Stone: slate and marble
- Certain Fabrics: denim and polyester
- Leather
- Glass
As blue diode lasers, Atomstack X serie can cut certain thin and lightweight materials. They are paper and card stock, fabric, felt, sticker vinyl, cardboard, wood board, rubber stamp, acrylic, craft foam, thin plastic sheets (PETG, polystyrene, and thin PVC sheets), leather, EVA foam, thin cork, etc.
Some of these materials like plastics can be cut with limited success.
Metals have high reflectivity and thermal conductivity, making them unsuitable for engraving or cutting with visible wavelength lasers such as blue diode lasers.
However, diode laser engravers can mark metal surfaces after plating or painting, acting on coatings or oxidised layers.
If you're looking to engrave or cut metals such as stainless steel, it's recommended to use a fibre laser engraver/cutter.
Atomstack Laser Engraving Machines are compatible with popular engraving software, including LaserGrbl (Free, compatible with Win XP, Win 7, Win 8, Win 10, Win 11), LightBurn (Paid-30 Day Free Trial, compatible with Mac OS, Linux, Win XP, Win 7, Win 8, Win 10, Win 11) and Atomstack App.
These software options provide efficient control and precise results for laser engraving with the Atomstack machine.
Yes, setting up a laser engraving machine is designed to be easy, particularly with beginner-friendly and user-friendly models like the A6, X12, and X24 PRO laser engraving machines. These machines come pre-assembled, requiring minimal installation. They feature a fully integrated design, eliminating complex assembly demands.
To start your creative projects, you simply need to instal the laser module. The installation process is straightforward and hassle-free, allowing you to begin engraving quicky. AtomStack prioritizes user-friendliness in machine design, and additional support is available through instruction manuals, user-friendiy control panels, and technical assistance.
